brief summary of the conclusions at which we arrived to-
gether with a precis of our previous conversation. Fr.
Barry called on me next day and carefully read through the
manuscript which he was good enough to say appeared to have
omitted nothing. He altered a word or two here and there,
and these alterations have been incorporated. I had not had
time to circulate the notes to other gentlemen present for
verification. This has since been done and their comments
appear over initials in the margin.
4. Your Lordship will observe that Fr. Barry while concurring in the accuracy of these notes
desired that I should not adopt his views until they had
been submitted to and approved by Messrs. Sir John Wolfe
Barry and Son, the Consulting Engineers, on whose behalf he
had come out.
5. The various questions discussed
will be separately dealt with in subsequent Despatches,
but I have considered that while dealing in this Despatch
with the position as regards Mr. Eves it might be useful
to submit to Your Lordship a general précis of what took
place. I would desire at the same time to record my
cordial appreciation of the thorough, exhaustive and able
manner in which Fr. Barry handled the various difficult
questions
